This is a new report from Lorefully, prepared for the National Shipbuilding Office and Connected Places Catapult, exploring how people enter, move through and stay within the UK shipbuilding and wider maritime workforce.
Drawing on senior stakeholder interviews and anonymous workforce contributions, the report provides a grounded view of skills, mobility and retention across the sector.
About the Report
UK shipbuilding depends on highly skilled people working across civil, defence and adjacent maritime industries. Yet there is limited evidence on how individuals experience career entry, progression, mobility and retention in practice.
This report was developed to help fill that gap.
Using Lorefully’s voice-led approach, the study captures evidence from employers, HR leaders, sector representatives and people working directly in and around shipbuilding. It explores what attracts people to the sector, how capability is developed, where skills move, and what helps people stay.
